Upgrading from an SL40 to a SL30. I have searched the archives and this seems to be beaten to death, but one more time! I read in the Skyview installation manual that only a TX and RX wire connect the Skyview and the SL30, just like the SL40 does. It seems to me that there should be these wires for the Com AND a separate pair for the NAV. Can it really do all that stuff on one little bitty pair of wires?

OK, me and my Skyview need to have a little talk, I need to tell it that the SL40 it THINKS I have is long gone, and it needs to communicate with an SL30. I suspect I need to un install the 40 and then install the 30? Any guidance on doing this?

Yep, assuming you re-used the same serial port wires on the SkyView end of things, just go to (assuming the latest skyview software) SETUP MENU > SYSTEM SETUP > SERIAL PORT X SETUP.

My Skyview shows the currently tuned frequency on my SL30, however, when I select tune freq on Skyview it doesn't change my SL30?

My SL30 is the same, just can't tune radio from Skyview. Apparently the radio needs an OS upgrade although I don't have a clue how to do it!

That means that either

1) Dynon TX / Radio RX connection isn't being made
2) Make sure you're using the TUNE COM button. The APT>COM button won't work with the SL30 (it shouldn't be there in fact, that's a bug)
3) The SL30 isn't able to receive the frequency tuning, perhaps because of an incompatible firmware version. I can't speak to the ins and outs of that. SL30s need to go back to Garmin for any updates, I believe.

Hi, and thanks for your reply.

My SL30 is showing a NAV CDI, and is also showing frequencies on the top bar of the Display, so I guess it needs its software updating.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Dynon cure number 1 still could be the problem and sounds like it might be the problem.  On the Vans RV12 wiring for instance, that wire is not present, I had to add it.  Before I added it, mine acted the same as yours.  It is real easy to check and see if it is wired or not, and even easier to add the wire...
Looking at the back of the tray at the 37 pin connector, you should have wires in the 4 (Rx) and 5 (Tx) pins (top row counting from the left).
