Software V11 minor issues on boot and a suggestion

I notice that the boot sequence in the new software, while considerably faster, is kind of "sketchy"...

Immediately after switching from the text listing to the graphics, a bunch of items momentarily flash the red "X", then go to valid states. I know this is because those devices or subsystems (like the map/GPS, etc.) are coming on-line, but frankly, it looks bad. I could live with a few seconds of delay until everything comes up, and a clean boot presentation.

Actually, I didn't mind the longer boot sequence from before, anyway...it gave me a chance to get settled in the cockpit, raise the flaps, get the checklist ready, etc. It wasn't much of a wait.

Second, something in the boot sequence is clipping part of the self-test audio announcement "Dynon SkyView" (I have it going to an unswitched audio input on the audio panel, so I can hear alerts over the cabin speaker as well as headphones). It sounds like

"D" [gap/noise] "non Skyview". Ick.

I want my passengers to see and hear a clean, elegant boot sequence...most have never seen a glass panel, and they watch what it's doing, and if it flashes a bunch of big honkin' red X's, and the audio is goobered up on start-up, it doesn't inspire confidence in the electronics (for them, not for me...).

Lastly...I uploaded the new terrain database (thank GOD that doesn't change often...it took FOREVER). One suggestion...on the setup page which shows the various databases, there is no indication of the version or date of any of the terrain data. So although I know I uploaded the new ones to the unit, there's no way to actually verify that after the fact. Might be nice to add that info.

Steve,
None of the red X at boot or strange Dynon cut off boot sounds occur in our aircraft, our tests, or our beta testers. We wouldn't release a experience like that. Could you send a video with sound if possible? Knowing your system configuration would also help.

We were told that screens with lots of text scared passengers. So we're kind of between a rock and a hard place here.

Well, I'll see what I can do to grab a video of it...here's the configuration:

SV1000 (pre-touch...anxiously awaiting the notification that I can upgrade, and yes, I'm on the list :))
EMS module
SV XPDR
SV ADS-B
SV autopilot servos (two axis)
ARINC module connected to GNS430W
single SV ADAHRS
SV audio outputs connected to unmuted, unswitched GMA340 input
SV GPS
SV Pitot/AOA
SV Backup Battery

I think that's it :).  No SV radio or AP external boxes.

The red X's are *very quick*, but they're there.  The audio hiccup occurred after complete power-down and then power-up, to validate the system after all the uploads of software and data...it didn't do it during the numerous boot cycles while updating.

WRT text vs. speed...there's always *some* customer who wants something different, isn't there? :)  I feel your pain.  You should try dealing with scientists and their conflicting "requirements" sometime LOL!

OK, it's definitely repeatable, and I have several video clips. The red X's *always* show up for a fraction of a second, and the dropout on the "Dynon" audio seems to happen occasionally.

How would you like me to send these clips to you?

For the record during Garmin G1000 initialization they have always displayed red Xs as various subsystems come on line.

Ditto for Aspen PFDs.

Yeah, I'm just saying that in the quest for a "fast" boot, it's needlessly popping up red X's...adding a simple wait state or two to delay the graphics just a bit would make it appear cleaner (and probably fix the clipped audio, as well).

We don't think the boot speed improvements and what you're seeing are necessarily related, although they're obviously both tied to v11 (one by design, one not). Also, we don't think that most people are seeing the red x / boot audio artifacts (but tell us if we're wrong! Video is always helpful)

In our "packages" (Method 1), the databases included in them are current as of the day you download them. If you download them and install the package a week or two later, the databases included may have expired.

As always, you can download JUST the aviation / obstacle databases at our Dynon SkyView Database Downloads page.

after downloading 11.0 I get a data base out of date message
