Hi!

It seems as our installation of the AP74 sound out cable to the intercom has been wired without the 10k potensiometer (recistance). The warning sound volumes are pretty low so I just want to confirm that with out any potensiometer you get the lowest volume setting, right?

If wired directly, without a potentiometer, the volume will be at maximum. The HS34 is not meant to drive headsets directly, so it needs to go into an intercom that will buffer the signal.

To be specific, on a Sigtronics intercom I found that feeding the HS34 audio into the radio input did not provide sufficient volume, but that feeding it into the music input (designed for a lower signal level) did.  The down side of that is that a) it will be partially or completely muted when radio traffic is incoming (good or bad depending on your preference) and b) it will likely be unavailable if the intercom itself fails.

There are any number of very small amplifiers available if you want headphone-level output directly from one of these units.  Vx Aviation has some inexpensive accessories for those of us without a full audio panel.
