Stadium TFRs

With every database download my Skyview display persists in showing "stadium" TRSs, even when none exist. Today my other aviation software and even FSS's also  say these TRF's do not currently exist. Per my FSS and FDC catchall notam 4/3621 stadium TFS are defined as 3 sm and 3000'AGL for 1 hour before and after an event of 30,000 people or more. Plus pilots are authorized to transit these TFRs (still complying with the 1000'/2000' congested areas rules) , but not loiter in them. For most operations these stadium TFRs are no big deal except for the fact that pilots could inadvertently find themselves "loitering" in one out of sight of the event because there is no public notice that one is in effect. Even FSSs are not informed! Without installing a daily Skyview database the Dynon info is therefore unreliable - a "cry wolf" sort of thing. Thus it seems unnecessary to include these false stadium TFRs in Skyview. (And after multiple downloads they don't ever seem to go away.) Can someone explain? Thanks.

The FAA used to send these out over ADS-B, but stopped in 2015. So we added them to the database. As you say, there's no way to know if they are active, but some users like to know where they are. Even back when the FAA sent them over ADS-B they were just marked as active all the time.

I'm sure interpretations vary, but the NOTAM says nothing about being able to transition but not loiter as far as I see- what it says to me is that you can transition if you are talking to ATC.

Not sure if it's a local thing, but here in Seattle the ATIS for the major airports nearby the stadiums have started indicating when they are active which is really nice.

But, in the end, If you don't like them, you can turn them off (along with just about anything else shown on the map) in MAP ITEMS under MAP SETUP. You can hide just stadiums or all TFRs.
