I searched the forums and didn't find my problem.
This is an early SV System in a RV-8A with a full complement of engine instruments. It has been rock solid for many years. About a week ago 5 minutes after takeoff the entire EMS screen display was replaced with a big red X, I went back and landed and checked all the wiring to the EMS especially the ground and power. The fuse checked good, but I replaced it anyway. I turned the system on for about 20 minutes using both the aircraft and backup battery. I started the aircraft and taxied it did a runup and shutdown. After takeoff the EMS system displayed a big Red X. Two days ago, I rechecked everything and everything worked fine after takeoff. After 30 minutes I received the first caution on Oil Pressure, subsequent Red X and then normal. I received several more aural cautions some of which without any apparent gage problem. The last 5 minutes of the flight everything worked normally. The entire EMS never failed on the flight. I'm thinking removing the fuse for the Skyview and flying on the back up battery to confirm that it's not a problem with the aircraft electrical system.
Any thoughts for some other troubleshooting before I send the EMS module in for repair?

This really sounds like the Skyview network is losing communication with the EMS 220. Check all the connections on the network cable from the EMS 220 to the Skyview. If it happens again, pull up the Network page in settings and see if the EMS 220 is missing.

I finally found the problem to be in a splitter cable. Plugging directly into the SV the EMS worked fine. Thanks skysailor! I had checked the pins on the EMS cable but never thought to look at the other side of the Y.
