SV-COM-C25 radio gain issue

This radio has a receiver gain automatic suppression feature that is really annoying. When flying parade formation where the antenna's might be 20 ft apart the transmissions received are greatly reduced to the point of not being able to hear them. If I slip the aircraft so there is not line of sight between antennas I can hear the transmission normally. The impact will clip entire transmissions or partial clips as the two aircraft bounce around. It is entirely repeatable and is clearly a feature of the radio, I presume to protect the receiver. However, it should not suppress so much that one can't hear anything. Is there some way to adjust this? (and I just edited this because my com is the older C25 radio)
