SV with PPS and VP-X

Hi,

If anybody has configured a Vertical Power PPS and VP-X with a Skyview system, I would be interested in knowing how you configured the output from the PPS to provide ammeter readings and low voltage readings. The PPS instructions have pinouts (see attached) from the PPS going to LEDs for battery or alternator faults and to ammeters for reading battery voltage or alternator output. But, I presume separate LEDs and ammeters are not necessary with the SV system.

Thanks for any help.

Scott

Hi Scott

i see no answers to this post and presume you figured out a solution. I‘m in the later stages of an avionics upgrade that includes an EarthX battery, internally regulated Alt, PPS, VPX and HDX x 2 with an EMS. Can you tell me if you used the optional PPS Battery Current and Alternator Current outputs and what you connected them to. Thanks.

I have the same setup but with externally regulated alternator & Odyssey battery. I didn’t connect most of the optional in/outputs as the Dynon EMS shunt etc does all I need it to do, couldn’t see the need for any doubling up which could take more time with troubleshooting if any faults show up.YMMV.

Scott, I have a led but not sure whether it’s on pin 13 or 14. - I’ll be back at the plane on Monday if you need to know & can advise if you want.

I've wired the PPS Battery Current output (pins 9 & 20) to Dynon EMS pins D37-24 and D37-25 respectively. That seems to work with a realistic looking battery current displayed on the Dynon EMS screen.

However, I'm confused about paragraph 11 in section 6.5 Configuring the Dynon SkyView of the VP-X Installation and Operating Manual. That says:

"The diagram above the list of devices on the SkyView screen can show VP-X current as well as alternator b-lead current and battery current if you have shunts installed. You can display or hide these values. To hide them, select “other” for the shunt location in the VP-X setup. To show them, select the appropriate input source."

I'm getting odd alternator b-lead current and battery current values displayed on the Dynon HDX VPX screen (the one that shows you each individual VP-X circuit and it's current draw) and I think that's because I have no shunts installed. However, what are these shunts and what do you connect them to?

They connect to the alternator or the battery to provide a current reading direct to the Skyview, which is the normal method when not using a VP-X. That paragraph is telling you they can still be connected if you want to receive additional current readings, independent of the VP-X. They aren't necessary unless you really want that sort of redundancy.
