I've noticed that when on the runway, the 'picture' that SV paints shows me higher - at least that is the way I judge it by the perspective. I determined that changing the baro setting actually appears to move my vertical position up and down. It got me wondering if 'ground level' is set at 29.92 or some kind of nominal value?

I thought, but am not sure now, that GPS altitude is the thing that is used to render the synvis picture. Near the ground, though, we do have some software limits to have you not appear under the ground, which is helpful when GPS vertical accuracy isn't awesome, which can sometimes happens. Off the cuff, I'm not sure why baro would make a difference.
