Tach Transducer

My apologies for the last entry.  Happy fingers I guess.

My question is....Will the UMA Tach Transducer, Part # T1A9, work with my Skyview?  I don't know how many wires come out of it, but I did use one of these transducers on a Garmin 900X installation.

The Transducer screws into the inspection port of a Slick mag and magnetically measures rotation.

Think this will work on the Skyview?

Just for some history, the D100 series needed >10V pulses to sense tach. SkyView has two sets of inputs - one that's the same as above, and another that is for low voltage rpm outputs (2-10V). Assuming the UMA transducer is 5V pulses (can't promise that, as I can't find a spec on their site quickly), it should work. Let us know if you confirm the output though.

Hello,

I thought this would be the appropriate thread on which to ask my question. I have a Contrex 5800-1410 magnetic pickup that I'm using to count teeth on my flywheel. The flywheel has 135 teeth so I set the pulses/rev to 135 by editing the EMS file. The Contrex pickup has two leads. One side I connected to 12v from the battery bus and the other to the Standard RPM Input Left P32. I have set up the tach in the EMS using P32. Upon cranking the engine I am not getting any revs in the RPM widget on the EMS display. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dave

Dave, I would not be surprised if this does not work. Our system is not designed to take such high frequency inputs. We're used to maybe 2 pulses per revolution on an engine that does 10,000 RPM, which is 300 pulses per second.

At 135 PPR, even a 2,000 RPM engine is 4,500 pulses per second. Even at idle, this is 1,600 pulses per second, about 5 times faster than we ever designed for.

Thanks very much for the prompt reply. I suppose I better rethink my tach pickup approach as opposed to counting those 135 teeth on the flywheel.

Thanks,

Dave

My Corvair auto engine conversion has 3 pulses per revolution of the crank so I set the pulses/rev to 3. I have a dual coil set up so what if I connect EMS P32 to the negative lead of the primary coil and P33 to the negative lead of the alternative coil? To protect the coils and the EMS I will insert a .5 amp fast-acting fuse in-line with each coil connection. Will this work? Also, do I need to map two separate RPM widgets to view the RPM off either coil pickup?

Thanks,

Dave

The overall setup sounds fine. We'd probably recommend a 1k resistor in there for protection - the fuses won't really add anything though. SkyView automatically looks at just one of the inputs at a time, so no need to do anything special there.
