I have heard and saw a thing on this website that a terrain/mapping function either will be available or already is available for a Dynon EFIS. One place said it would be early 2009 but then the article was dated September 2008. So my obvious questions are, when will the terrain be available or is it already available, and is it a firmware upgrade for the D100 or is it an entirely new model? I am in the middle of a fairly large dual cockpit upgrade/refurb/relocation involving two D100s, two D10s, two HS-34s and a Dynon autopilot (two completely seperate networks). Anyway the owner has heard of this terrain/mapping for Dynons and now would be the time to upgrade or change if he wants to go for it and if it is available.

Will be next year I believe after seeeing comments on this forum.

That is a big job and may be worth waiting for, you should phone Dynon and talk to them about timing and panel design.

What plane is this for? Sounds like fun!

What you want is Dynon's Next Generation system which is currently in development. The current line of products D100,D10, D180 cannot support terrain or mapping...last word was next gen will not be available in 2009.

It's an L-39 with an identical seperate Dynon network in both seats. The real trick will be controlling the autopilot from both networks (obviously not at the same time). As for the terrain capabilities in the next gen stuff, I doubt the owner will want to wait till next year.
