Good Morning
First Well done so far on the Skyview Launch!

Question:
What resolution is the terrain on the mapping screen?

I did a search and all you said was it is higher then most out there.

I see the new portable Garmin units Aera 550 actually specified theirs: Quote from their site: "Terrain/obstacles graphics are shown in higher-resolution 9 arc-second detail on the aera 550 display (providing over 11 times more onscreen resolution than the standard 30 arc-second versions)"

How does the skyview compare or what is the specification please?

Thanks in Advance.
Regards
Rudi

Rudi,
Our terrain resolution is 3 arc-seconds. That makes us about 9 times higher resolution than the unit you mentioned, or 100 times more resolution than standard 30 arc-second units.

Converting the 3 arc-seconds of angular terrain resolution that Skyview gets to distance on the earth, I get 5 feet. Very good resolution! You should supposedly be able to see elevation differences for each 5 foot patch of land.

Conversion equalities:

1 nm = 6045 ft. = 1 arc-minute at the equator = 3600 arc-seconds at the equator.

Therefore, resolution = (3/3600)*6045 = 5.0375 feet

Something doesn't look right...

1 arc-minute = 60 arc-second, not 3600.
So I think the correct number is 302 feet.  A number which is still the highest resolution available.

Sorry, screwed up the arc-second thing. I thought 5 feet ground resolution was too small.
