To shield, or not to shield? VPX to EFIS.

I'm working on wiring my SkyView system to my Vertical Power system.  The VP-X instructions talk about making, and connecting a shielded 3-wire serial data cable to the SkyView....it says to pick any available serial Tx and Rx pins.  Well, I can't find any available pins because it looks like my custom-made harness already has twisted pairs on all my Tx/Rx pins.  Having these wires already "pinned" would be a GOOD thing, except that they are not shielded, as called for in the VP manual.
Is it vital to use shielded wire on the VPX-to-SkyView data cable?  I noticed that NONE of the other serial data pairs,  that connect the EFIS to other components, are shielded.  Is this OK?  I'd like to use the already pinned wires as supplied to hook up the VPX, but, obviously, don't want to, later, pull it out and replace it.

In our opinion, you do not need shielded wires on the RS-232 connections and this is why none of our harnesses come with shields. We would recommend just using standard wire to get from your SkyView to your VP-X.
