This is my first post on the forum so I hope it's under the right topic and is not a subject that has been covered.
I wrote to Dynon support some time ago when the mapping enhancements where produced and certificates sold, I was very excited to purchase this upgrade. The problem unfortunately is that the map topography is poor for Australia. Most of my flying is done in the remote areas of this country (bush flying) and whilst de-clutter can be important in built up areas, detail is vital in remote areas.
If you were to view Australia on Dynon maps you will not find a road in the Northern Territory, which is an area approximately the size of 15% of the US mainland. The national highway that connects the East Coast (Sydney) to the West coast (Perth) through Adelaide (about 2000 miles) is not shown, nor is the one that links the North and South through the centre of Australia.
Whilst Australia is relatively unpopulated compared with the USA there are still a multitude of small towns and large ranches that are required to help with navigation.
I hope this doesn't sound like a big whinge, I think my twin Skyview system is excellent and I’m glad of my choice but it is very badly let down by its mapping detail in Australia. I would expect at the very least the level of topographic detail that can be found on the world aeronautical charts but preferably that which is shown on other moving map systems such as PocketFMS or the Australian flight planner OzRunways. I understand PocketFMS are keen to provide the data but are prohibited by Dynon. Does anyone else share this problem?
