Since we are building and planning to fly a SkyView-equipped RV-7 in Europe we are looking for a sensible solution to display traffic on the SkyView. I have read several topics about these things but did not find a definitive answer to my questions.
We are going to use the SkyView together with the Dynon transponder.
As far as I understand the Dynon Transponder receives TIS data and displays it on the SkyView. Unfrotunately, there is no TIS in Europe. Does the transponder also act as an ADS-B receiver and is it capable of displaying ADS-B ES traffic data on the SkyView without any additional equipment?
The next question is about FLARM (http://flarm.com/) which is very commonly used especially in gliders in Germany. FLARM sends its own messages in NMEA format but uses its own vendor-specific messages (that are documented and the documentation is publicly accessible). Are there plans to support FLARM messages directly? I know that this question was asked earlier but this was also quite some time ago.
We are currently looking very closely at the Garrecht TRX-2000 (http://www.garrecht.com/index.php/en/ads-b/trx-2000). This combines an ADS-B receiver with a FLARM module. The device can combine FLARM with ADS-B traffic and output the information either in the FLARM or TIS format.
As far as I understand this could be connected to the SkyView using the TIS format, but with the drawback of a very coarse angular precision (45 degrees) in the horizontal plane. The FLARM protocol would allow for a much greater precision.
Are there any other good solutions to receive and display traffic on the SkyView besides TIS, XAON and the like?
Thanks for any answers!
Best regards
Arne
