Hi
A european agent has told me that I can't get traffic information on Skyview from the Dynon transponder and I would have to use a Zaon receiver.
However the Dynon information does not seem to say this.
If so should it be the Class 1 transponder.
Many thanks,
Robin

Hi Robin,

I use a ZAON with my Skyview, works well, but of course is only of use if the conflicting aircraft have their transponders on. ADSB is not available in Europe.

I was under the understanding that Europe has Mode S TIS. This should display traffic on the SV with the Dynon transponder or any mode S transponder. Not the case?

TIS is in the USA only. No other country uses TIS. Thus our transponder will only receive traffic in the USA.

ADS-B is available in Europe, and many other countries. It is carried on the Mode-S transponder signal, and picked up by another box. This is generally known as a 1090ES receiver. A 1090ES box will only pick up other craft that are Mode-S equipped, hence the reason they are mandating aircraft have Mode-S transponders sometime soon.

Zaon is a passive system that works with all transponder equipped planes, but has a lower heading and range accuracy, and can only see three targets at once. It works and exists today though.

You can use a Zaon receiver with our system, and there are a few companies working on 1090ES receivers that should be out soon and affordable.
