When multi-leg flight planning becomes available in a future SkyView release, will it be possible to plan flights on a PC using for instance Jeppesen FliteStar and transfer the flight plan to SkyView using a USB memory stick?

We'll likely have some way to import flight plans from external software at some point, but no commitment on when or what programs. What do you guys (our customers) use?

The AOPA Flight Planner can export files to the Garmin X96 series. I would like to see this supported by Dynon.

For info, I use Flight Plan.com mainly for calculations and filing, and foreflight for route setup, airport info and weather analysis. A memory stick route feed to SV from either would be great, but some way to feed from iphone would also be really powerful, and ahead of the pack too. Thanks for asking...Jack L

Are there even devices that have a method for sending flight plans over bluetooth? If that half of the equation isn't there, that's one big hurdle (where is the data actually coming from?). I can't say we're familiar enough.

More generally, though, this isn't likely to happen. There's no bluetooth hardware in the SkyView displays, and integrating it isn't trivial, even though there are USB bluetooth adapters commonly available. If only we had based SkyView on Windows ;)

There is nothing wrong with USB for data transfer. Bluetooth is great at getting rid of cables but it's transfer rate is 2.1 Mbit/s compared with 480 Mbit/s for USB. I can't imagine transferring the terrain database over Bluetooth.

Windows? Don't go there.

I am using - like many other pilots - OziexplorerCE vor planning my routes. With an additional application I can export the route files to Garmin x96 GPS receivers.

I wrote in the thread "Map Features - Your Input Requested":

One general way would be - besides the imports flight plans from external software -  that you create for SV an readable format for the routes to import i.e. a simple text file.

An example:

Geodatum: WGS84;

wpt1_name, lat1, lon1, altitude1
wpt2_name, lat2, lon2, altitude2
wpt3_name....

So is everybody able to convert the own route file (from the own planning application) into the SV route format. Important is the usage of user defined waypoints.

Best regards

Be sure to support the .GPX format since a lot of programs can import/export that open industry format so can a lot of GPS devices.

That way you will also support a lot of different flight planning software, instead of any specific brand.

Yes Rudi you are right - the .GPX format is a good alternative for general using in different applications!
