Transponder code display

I noticed that the xpndr code won't display on my main SkyView screen if the second screen is offline.
I can fix this by disconnecting the secondary screen's serial port from the transponder but it kind of defeats the purpose of screen redundancy.

I can still enter the code, it just won't display until the 2nd screen boots up.

Is there a better way?

Vern,
There is a time when a second screen is booting that it does interfere with serial ports. If it's turned off, or if it's fully booted this interference does not exist. The software hanging or restarting will not cause this interference to occur.

If you are seeing an issue in a different case, then we have something to go look at.

Vern:

You're describing a classic symptom that both displays are not wired with both serial TX and RX to the transponder. Likely you have had your system installed prior to firmware v6.0 when the recommendation was to wire SkyView display TX from only one display to the transponder. We've since superseded that advice - now you should wire both TX and RX to both displays - see http://dynonavionics.com/docs/WhatsNew_SkyView.html, first item for v6.0.

With both TX and RX wired to both displays, whenever one display is fully off, the display remaining on will be able to communicate with the transponder. When one or both are booting, there is a brief period where the transponder is offline as the displays are "negotiating" which will handle serial communications.

First, sorry for posting this in the wrong forum.

I have always had both SkyView units wire-or'd with both TX and RX to the transponder. See http://www.vx-aviation.com/sprocket/photos/panel_elec/schematics/EFIS.pdf

However, duh, I now realize that it's the transponder that is not powered up. It has nothing to do with the second screen. I need to move my transponder to the primary bus.

However, it would be really handy to enter my code and have it displayed even with the transponder offline. Put it into the suggestion bin...even a different colour or a popup window display would be useful to ensure I enter the correct code. This would work under battery power when flight plans and codes are entered.

Cheers,

Vern
