transponder - operation without antenna

I've installed a Dynon SV-XPNDR-26X transponder, but I'm still waiting for my antenna to arrive. I have configured the transponder on my Skyview displays, but haven't applied power to the transponder yet. Most radios don't like to be operated without being connected to an antenna or dummy load. Should I wait to apply power to the transponder until I have installed the antenna?

You can apply power to it with nothing attached to the antenna port. It doesn't transmit unless you put it in ON or ALT mode, and even this is not really a problem with this transponder design. No reason to go and put it into ON/ALT mode though.
