Does this unit use the SL30 protocol, Can it interface with the Skyview HDX using the SL30 protocol or the ARINC-429 ?,
i.e. without a dedicated CDI?

The installation manual includes this paragraph:

5.6.11 RS232 Input/Output The RS232 input allows certain third-party multi-function displays to preload the standby and active frequencies and to monitor the Nav/Com status. The radio understands the Apollo SL30 protocol ($PMRRC and $PMRRV) and the Garmin GNC protocol ($PGRMC and $PGRMV), both of which are based on NMEA at a speed of 9600 bps.

... but I'm not sure if that means it would interface with one of the Skyview's five serial ports... the word understands might imply that the unit can understand the HDX not that it sends NAV data to the Skyview...

I didn't think the TX56A had ARINC. It should be able to see data from the Skyview over a properly configured serial port, but that might not be a bi-directional connection. Maybe somebody else has first hand experience with it.

Yes, there's a thread on that implies that Trig is working on a software upgrade to make ut completely compatible with Skyview.

I got a reply from a tech at Trig in Scotland...

Hi Charles,

The TX56 is fully compatible other than the volume control.

The software update will help with the following:

  • Improved interoperability with Dynon Skyview and Skyview HDX systems when using SL30 protocol. The HSI course is stored and restored for display by Skyview at power on.
  • Improved interoperability with Garmin G3X systems. Com and Nav frequencies are displayed in SL30 mode.
  • The Nav audio output is muted at power on when using the internal intercom to remove the need for an extra button press to silence unwanted noise.
  • The tuning step size is retained across power off/on cycles.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

All the best,
