Type K thermocouple for CHTs?

Hello!

I am considering upgrading from my current system (non-Dynon) to the new Dynon HDx system. My EMS monitoring uses type K thermocouples for both CHTs and EGTs.

I see Dynon uses type J thermocouples for CHT probes. Would type K work as well? I'd prefer not to change the probes if I can avoid doing it. Would it be as easy as creating or reusing a settings file?

You can use J or K type for CHT with just a simple selection in the EMS setup menu.

The EMS Sensor Mapping Explanation section of section 7 is what you're after. What you're doing is relatively rare (using non-J's for CHTs), so it's not explicitly covered.

You'll want to understand the input mapping concepts and then adjust the CHTs under SETUP MENU > EMS SETUP > SENSOR INPUT MAPPING. Then scroll to the bottom, where all the CHTs and EGTs are. From there you need to change the middle column (and then the right one too because you'll blank it once you change the thermocouple type)
