I have a solo d180 install. It was running 4.? and I wanted to update
to 5.2 so I bought the Dynon usb to serial adapter to connect to the
serial plug on my Dynon purchased wiring harness. I plugged the adapter into a laptop running Vista and got the driver loaded, I also loaded the 5.2 update program then headed for the cockpit. After plugging all together turning on the dynon and booting the computer I
ran the 5.2 program and selected "find firmware number" or some such innocuous command. I get the yellow screen but then the computer says can't connect. I replug, retry etc. but no dice. meanwhile the yellow screen sits there looking at me - the backup battery means i can't even shut it off. I've unplugged the computer and am at home. What are my options? Tomorrow I'll go back to see if I'm screwed. 4.? is looking pretty good to me now. Who needs the updates.

Wilson,

If the screen went yellow but then the update didn't go through, this means we were able to send data to the EFIS, but it couldn't send data back. This can be due to one of two reasons: Either the wiring had a problem, or the driver you used for the USB-serial was incorrect.

Your unit will be fine once the internal battery dies. It will boot up normally.

Did you use the driver on the CD, or the one vista downloads? The CD driver is only for XP, and vista needs to use the driver it auto-downloads.
