Unable to connect USB Serial - Windows 10?

I am trying to do the latest upgrade. I have previously used this same Dell laptop to upgrade my D-180.  Last month I upgraded to Windows 10.  Should that work, or am I doing something else wrong?  I refreshed the USB to Serial driver from the Dynon site. The cable was stock purchased from Dynon. The Error Message says "Can't find instrument on serial port.  Please close any programs using a serial port.

When I go to the Windows Device page I see the USB to Serial line.  There is a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it.

Suggestions?  ThANKS!

Some older USB-serial cables have driver issues under windows 10. Try uninstalling the driver entirely from the device manager (right click the device, the properties, then driver tab, then uninstall (uninstall the driver, advanced). Note that this is different than the "uninstall" option that's just in the right click menu.

After the drivers are uninstalled, unplug the adapter. Then reboot the computer, plug the adapter back in, and let windows try to find drivers on its own via windows update (ie, don't install the drivers from our site). If that doesn't work, you may need a different USB-serial converter. The ones we currently sell work with Windows 10.

Keeps getting worse.

I ordered the Dynon USB-Serial cable and downloaded the driver from Dynon.  Deleted the old driver and installed the new one. It now connects the laptop to the EFIS and the Dynon program recognizes it.  I am able to detect which level firmware is currently installed. Go far, so good.

I go to upload the 5.6.0 firmware and click "Yes" to backing up the old one.  Seems to go just fine for several minutes until almost the end, where I get the Run Time Error 75.  Tried it a couple of times.  Even re-downloaded the Dynon upgrade program and re-installed it on my Dell. All the while the yellow Do Not Turn Off screen is on.

I tried saying No to the backup offer and just upload to see if that works.  Almost immediately I get the Run Time Error.  Now, I'm at a loss.

I have connected a smart charger to the ship's battery to keep it from running down.

What do I do now?

Thanks.

So first, if the upload started (hard to say), then when you remove/reapply power you're going to have an EFIS that may continuously reboot. If that happens, we'll unfortunately need to see your EFIS here to fix it. But if you remove/reapply power and it starts up normally, then we can troubleshoot further.

It sounds like there might be a problem with your Dynon Support Program installation. We've seen this extremely rarely. To completely reinstall the Dynon Support program and remove all traces of it's past existance:

1) Close the Dynon Support Program.
2) Go to your windows control panel, select uninstall a program, then find Dynon Support Program and press uninstall.
3) To remove some of the configuration files, hold the windows key on your keyboard and press the "r" key. You should get a dialog box in the lower left hand corner of your computer. Type in %appdata%, then press enter. You should now be looking at a folder of folders. One of them should be "Dynon Support". Select that folder and delete it.
4) Reinstall the latest version of the Dynon Support Program.

Hopefully that clears things up here, and sorry for the continued problems you're having.

Unfortunately, when I removed the interface cable and shut down the D-180, it would not come back on.

Returned to Dynon for repairs.

In anticipation of getting the D-180 back, I removed the Dynon folder as described above. I have also uninstalled Windows 10 and reverted to Windows 7.
