When attempting to update the Dynon 180 to Version 5.1.1. I get the following measages:

Instrument found on Com port 8
Attempting connection
It then cycle through a number of different Com ports only to give a final measage that it is unable to connect. Any ideas?
The Dynon screen does go yellow during this process.
I do not have the keep alive connection
I have tried 2 different computers
Thanks

Just to check- it DOES go yellow during the process?

If so, I'm, stumped.

I had a similar problem when the TX line from the Efis to the computer wasn't connected correctly... The screen also went yellow, then the computer started looking on other ports.

But that was way back when on version 3!

Thanks for the replies
Have tried another connector cable with same results.
Yes, the screen does turn yellow but only when attempting to 'detect firmware version' and not when attempting to 'download logged data'
Everything seems to return to normal when unit switched off at avionics switch (it will not 'powere down' when screen is yellow!)
Any other thoughts?

When you try to detect firmware version, does that process finish successfully? If not, you want to look for a broken or otherwise disconnected EFIS serial tx line. Basically, it sounds like your computer isn't hearing back from the EFIS after it sends it some commands to go into loading mode.

Just another quick thought. The virus software I was running had disabled comm through the com ports and I had the same typoe of error. After I set the virus software to allow data through the comm port, it started to work.

McAfee did a similar thing to me, installing a firewall I did not want. Try disabling any firewall(s) and see if that fixes the problem - you won't need them if you disconnect from the internet while updating the EFIS, which in my mind is a good thing anyway.

Thanks Guys - problem solved!!
Uninstalling the virus software (AVG 8.5 ) did not help - still got the yellow screen with the message 'unable to connect'. Soooo.. decided (as suggested on the forum) to check the continuity of the black, yellow and orange wires (Dynon 25 pin plug to DB9 Serial plug). Must admit I was supprised to find the orange wire disconected from the pin in the DB9 plug (poor crimping)!!! Supprised - mainly because I had previosly done a successful upgrade to version 5.
Thinking about it now, I guess it all seems obvious- the computer was talking to the Dynon but not getting a reply (as pointed out above).
Thanks again
