The other day I set my magnetic heading on my D-180 installed in my RV9A in my garage, today I shut the canopy and noticed the magnetic heading change by 7 degrees. When I opened the canopy back up the magnetic heading went back to the pr-set heading. Could the center rib of the canopy be interfering with the EDC-10A when it slides over the top of the fuselage. Thanks Ken.

A friend of mine had to degauss the rollover bar of his RV6A before he could calibrate his ordinary whisky compass. It is possible that the slider frame is magnetised, or the rollover bar is magnetised and induces a field in the slider in the shut position. What happens if you lower the compass module nearer to the bottom of the fuselage?

I was contacted by Dynon and they advised they have heard of this before and I should calibrate the magnetic heading with all of the instruments turned on and the sliding canopy shut.
