never updated effis has 4.0 in it now do i have to put all the updates in it from 4.0 up or will the 5.2 take care of it all

Yes, 5.2 will update it from 4.0 without any incremental updates needed.

i notice in the 5.2 they have one for the effis and one for the ems i guess there not the same?

No, the same 5.2 PC program updates the EFIS and the EMS. Are you referring to the release notes which are different?

I'm guessing at what he meant - do you have a D180?

If you do, then selecting that unit in the upgrade menu will update all functions of the D180 (both EMS and EFIS).
