Updating Question

Sorry for my inability to find the answer via search.  If I have and EFIS, EMS, and AP74 plus just a GPS, the manual says to hook the GPS to the EMS.  
When updating the software the installation manual suggests that the gps doesn't have to be unhooked to do the update on the EMS.  Is this correct?  I'm trying to decide on switches and don't want to put one in if I don't need to.

The serial input that you use on the EMS to connect to the GPS is different from the serial port that you use to do updates. So your statements are correct. In contrast, on the EFIS, the serial input you can use to bring in GPS or SL30 IS the same one that is used for updates, so you need to have that device completely off (ideally disconnected) before doing updates over the serial port.
