Help needed please...
I have attempted today to update my twin D1000 Skyviews. This will be the first update I have done since installation earlier this year. Currently they show 12.2.0.2950.
When I go into Setup>System Software>Upgrade System Software, Upgrade System Software is 'grayed out' and I can't get any further!...Something probably stupid I am doing but I can't work out what?...Same situation with either Skyview screen.

Tried instead going to 'Load files' but I get 'No compatible files found in the main folder of the USB drive'.
Files are loaded in the root drive of the USB stick the same as I do for Pocketfms Mapping software which I have no problem uploading or updating.

All help much appreciated.

Alan,
Only one USB stick in a display at a time. Try the other display. Stick directly in the back of the display. Download and try another stick.

Hi,
Thanks for the thoughts.
I have tried both displays with the same result. I will try using another stick.
I have an update lead from each of the displays which works ok for Mapping updates, are you saying that I shouldn't use this for Dynon updates?...Getting directly to each display is not easy hence why I have update USB leads...But if it is what I have to do...

I believe when updating the system it is necessary to plug in the memory stick BEFORE powering on the Dynon and everything else. Any port should work, but this should be the only memory stick.

If the place you are plugging in the stick works for databases, it should work for firmware.

It is important to make sure only one USB stick is plugged in at a time, but it sounds like you already have that.

All we can suggest is to make sure the file is actually on that USB stick. It needs to have the file extension of .DUP or .DUC for SkyView to see it.

You can plug in the USB drive anytime. It does not need to be present at boot.

Thanks for all the tips and advice guys. Much appreciated.

I have tried putting the stick in both before and after powering the Dynon with same result....Update is still 'Grayed out'.

I will try again with a different stick. I now have downloaded the firmware update to this alternative stick. It shows as a .DUP file but it also shows as a .DUP file on the stick I tried today so I guess we will have to wait and see what happens.

Foregive me if you already tried this.
Perform the update on each Dynon display seperately, with the other display turned off.
Do them one at a time. Then reboot them, one at a time.
After doing that to each, see if the displays accepted it by rebooting the entire system.

Be patient with each step and let the install proceed at its own pace. It may take some time to finish each install.

Just trying to help.

In particular, be patient for the system to see the file on the stick, especially if it is a USB 2.0 stick.
Might take 10-20 seconds after plugging in for the system to see the file on the stick

Well a sucessful update of my twin D1000's system was finally achieved with the help of you all.

Just to tell you I tried an alternative stick and initially I got the same result,'Upgrade System Software' grayed out....I was not amused at this point!...However remembering what kellym said I waited, what seemed like a long time but was probably 45seconds to 1minute and then 'Hey presto' Upgrade System Software wasn't grayed out anymore. Same thing happened when doing the second screen..need to wait. Patience as the man said!
Anyway I did one screen at a time like wmince said and then rebooted the entire system, Checked configuration and all seems perfectly ok.

Like anything in life the first time you do anything is the hardest. I will know how to approach this easy job next time.

Thanks again all.

Alan.

Since I updated to 15.0.4. I have notice that when I turn off the P2 D1000 I get just momentarily ADHARS fail and EMS fail red crosses on the P1 screen. It does this on shut down and also if I do the same P2 screen turn off in flight.
It is only momentarily and reverts to correct operation immediately but I wondered if it was something not configured quite right? It didn't do this before doing the update.
Should I be concerned?

This is normal. The system has a "master" screen and "slave" screens. If the master turns off, it takes a second for the slave to take over.

Which one is master is kind of random because it doesn't really matter to the end user. But if you want to force your P1 screen to be master, go do a network config from it. Likely you updated your P2 screen first and that caused it to do a network config and become master.

Dynon Support likes to do this the hard way (network config). The much easier way to ensure that a particular display is "master" in the SkyView system is:

Power up your SkyView system normally.

After everything is fully booted up, Press button 1 on the NON-master display to manually power it off.

After the non-master display powers off, the display that stays on is now the Master.

Then, push button 1 on the non-Master for a few seconds to power it back up. The display you didn't power off will remain Master.

Or if you've got a battery backup on the display you wish to be "Master" you simply power it up first on battery backup by pressing the first button, then when it's up and booted you bring your other display online by enabling the power to the displays.
