Upgrade D10A to 5.3 failed with message, yellow sc

There you go, I'm posting this for a desperate friend.

he did a backup of his 10A (sitting there the last 5 years when building) then requested the Version, still looked good, then started an update to 5.3 where in seconds he got a message, that communication to bank/chip2 failed and since then he has the yellow screen.

Any communication via  serial (we've tried 2 Laptops) fails after a while with the message that there is no Dynon on serial x.

What is the next step, as the D10A can't be powered off with the standard button, however we could let the internal battery running low so it would switch off?

Update: disconnected the battery to shut down, switched on and it came back, however trying to upload ended with the same message.

In Addition: the 10A had developed a "lean" on the horizon to one side as it was not used for long time but it became better recently when it was switch on for longer periods of time.

Dynon, what should we do next or is there a forced power shutdown (currently running on external power)

Would appreciate any help!

Thanks a lot

Werner

Re: Upgrade D10A to 5.3 failed with message, yello

Hi Werner,

It's not clear from your description whether or not the unit is working and not able to be upgraded, or if it is now not working after an upload that didn't fully complete. If it's working but not able to be updated, I would try using a different computer if you can, just to eliminate that as a potential issue. But more likely, we'll need to see that unit here for repair if it will not accept a firmware upgrade.

We did use two different computers (also the one I use to regular update my 10A/100/D10/AP-74 and SV42s and it seems not to work (not accepting serial connection) I will try tomorrow another attempt to read first from the 10A and then check and let you know. We might postpone update to later this year due to the examination schedule we have.

So the unit is back "working" but update seems not to be possible.

I keep you posted!

De-escalation :D

I went today again and as even the version check via computer showed the same behavior, I got suspect. My colleague used that serial cable behind that 10A for several updates and backups in the past, but if the yellow screen comes up and then the PC tells he can not find a Dynon, there is some suspicion as the rcv to the PC might be broken.

Dismantling the plug showed, one pin was no longer correctly seated, after re-seating it (click) all went fine and the 10A has now the newest software ::).

Lesson learned! Now if that would have happened when he started the upgrade this could have ended in a disaster leaving the unit unusable (actually he started but then got an error (which bugged us as it sounded like a chip error)).

Now question to Dynon, it seems you go to the yellow screen without checking two way communication, wouldn't it be better, to check two way communication and then change to the upload screen or if the upload screen is coming and you can not communicate two ways reset and revert back?

Thanks a lot

Cheers Werner
