G'day Dynon

This issue seems to have been mentioned before however the strings don't appear very helpful.

Now I purchased a D180 System back in 2011. It came with a USB-Serial cable from "Sabrent".

I downloaded the recommended driver from the Prolific website and it didn't work.
I attempted to download the recommended driver from the Dynon website(dynonavionics.com/downloads/Software/64bit_Prolific_DriverInstaller.exe) and that didn't work.
I let windoze do its thing to find an appropriate driver and that failed as well.
I'm using a win7 64bit system notebook. Same results from my Win7 desktop.

Error reported from "Devices and printers" is "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

All a bit frustrating for this antipodean!

Your thoughts?

Cheers
Rod

They can be finicky at times. From the device manager, with the device plugged in, go the properties and uninstall the drivers completely. Then, reboot and plug it back in, and try letting windows find the drivers. If that still doesn't work, repeat the above, but try using the drivers from our site (install those before plugging the converter in). Also, make sure the converter is NOT connected to your Dynon, and the support program should be closed, when doing any of these operations. Only once you have windows telling you that the device is ready to use when plugged in should you connect up the Dynon product (first) and try to fire up the support program.

Finicky indeed!
Followed all suggestions and then some but to no avail.
Still an "error 10" reported by device manager.
Now the "Prolific" website is quite specific regarding "error 10".
"Warning Notice:
Please be warned that counterfeit (fake) PL-2303HX (Chip Rev A) USB to Serial Controller ICs using Prolific's trademark logo, brandname, and device drivers, were being sold in the China market. Counterfeit IC products show exactly the same outside chip markings but generally are of poor quality and causes Windows driver compatibility issues (Yellow Mark Error Code 10 in Device Manager). We issue this warning to all our customers and consumers to avoid confusion and false purchase."

So I went out to the local "Office Works" and purchased a USB-serial converter for $30.
Pluged it in and it self installed and device manager reports a USB-Serial interface working on com 9.
Connect to D180 start support program and LO - the yellow screen of communication appears.
Reports the version number, able to download checklists and I retired for the night comfortable that the problem is resolved.

Might be a good idea to QC and tag cables distributed with Dynon equipment to avoid the dreaded counterfeit chip issues that seem to plague Prolific.
