Use of USB socket for PDA power

I have a panel mounted USB socket for updating the system data. Is there any reason I cannot use the USB connector as a power source for a typical iPaq PDA to run a soaring computer program? I do not want to transfer data, I only want to use the DC power to extend the duration of the PDA batteries.

I used the USB to charge my camera batteries and asked the same question. While I didn't have a problem, Dynon pointed out the potential to draw too much power and affect the Skyview system should be considered. General USB ports only supply a few hundred milliamps. With that in mind, I bought a USB power unit that plugs into the lighter plug (5A circuit) for $5 and use it for charging. Cheaper then a $5G EFIS. ;)
