How does the glide ring calculate in changing terrain? Does it use an average AGL or some other method?

I like the glide ring - what a fantastic safety feature!
I noticed the "wind correction" could use some improvements. With my best glide speed being 56 kts I saw my plane OUTSIDE the new glide ring at altitude with wind @ 60 kts. But that's really not true, I can still easily reach a field below me or even into the wind by flying faster eg best glide plus half of headwind. Short of loading entire glide Polars into Skyview, maybe one additional sink rate and speed eg at best glide plus 20 kts might give a much better picture with some interpolation..

And then the terrain correction would be the ultimate safety enhancement.

George,
If there was more that one speed used to calculate the glide ring, wouldn't the system need to tell you which speed to fly to get to various places on the ring? It would be a continuum of airspeed speeds around the ring. The risk here is that someone sees an area covered by the glide ring, loses power, then assumes they fly at best glide and lands far short due to headwinds.

Unless you're a glider guy, you're going to fly your best glide speed...and if you're a glider guy, you don't need the ring anyway.

One more vote from me for terrain compensation...which for mountainous areas is arguably more important than wind.

Edit: My vote being a minor improvement to an already awesome feature--didn't mean to knock the current implementation!

I love the addition, too. My feeling is that if a Dynon Skyview can prevent even only a few of the many accidents where a better understanding of the glide might have helped, it's worth it. And probably child's play for Dynon's team after synthetic vision, terrain alerting, etc etc.

I'll put another request in for displaying best glide on the airspeed tape like Vy and Vx are presently. (Like other EFISes do.). During a stressful engine out time, it'd be nice not to have to remember what your book best glide speed is.

Page 4-33 of the install manual:

Glide Ring Setup
In SkyView v14.0, the ability to display a Glide Ring was added. For instructions on how to use
the Glide Ring feature, see the SkyView Pilot’s User Guide, Rev. W and later.
There are two settings that need to be adjusted for your specific aircraft for Glide Ring to be
accurately displayed:
[ch61623] SETUP MENU > AIRCRAFT INFORMATION > SINK RATE DURING GLIDE
[ch61623] SETUP MENU > PFD SETUP > AIRSPEED LIMITATIONS > Vg – BEST GLIDE
(under PERFORMANCE)

If your pilot in command you will know your glide speed, or you just along for the ride! First thing to do with an engine out is fly the plane, not get the book and look for stuff.
