Had both Skyviews on and after main skyview updated with the latest version, I had red Xs for ADAHRS and EMS displays but map was ok. 2nd skyview was not updated yet but displays were ok. Scared me that something went wrong. This never happened to me before. I updated 2nd skyview and after it rebooted and finished updating all the network components, everything returned to normal on both screens. It would have been good to know ahead that you would experience red X s until both units were updated. Just sayin....

its not the displays that cause the red X, as with every previous update the firmware needs to reach all devices,(as you said- it rebooted and finished updating all the network components, ) the second display, unless something changed in this version, was not what caused the red X's it was the network components and need for a reboot.
For future reference. Do one display at a time with the other powered off. That has always worked for me without issue, for some reason when I did attempt to do update with both displays on in a previous version, I too had an issue.

So this is expected, though not explicitly documented. Behind the scenes, one of your displays in a multiple display system is controlling some of the deeper communications across the whole system. You don't know which display it is (and you don't need to. Should that display fail or go away the other one steps right up to the challenge). When you upgrade from the non-controlling display first, it doesn't update the modules. But you'll update the other display(s) next and so by the time you're through everything is updated. Reidvaitor's technique works because turning off all but one display forces the remaining to be that controller of everything, and therefore its upgrade will bring all of the modules up to date with it.
