VP-X requirements

G'day Dynon,

I've got my VP-X talking to my SkyView display as evidenced by the setup page showing Tx/Rx counters incrementing, but, and this is a very BIG but, the SkyView display doesn't give me the option of an ENGINE page selection, obviously because I don't have an EMS module connected as yet.

That being said, nowhere in the documentation or spiel on the VP-X does it say having such an EMS module is a requirement to show VP-X status on the SkyView network.

So, have I missed something in the documentation to show VP-X status or do I need an EMS module to show the VP-X info?

Hrmm?  That's a good question.  I can't remember what softkey options are/aren't displayed if the EMS isn't hooked up.  That being said, when the EMS IS hooked up and operating, you have to access the VP-X softkey by first selecting the ENGINE softkey....

Also, when there is a VP-X fault, the Skyview announces "Engine Monitor" over the audio.  I'm thinking you need the EMS...hope you planned for that.

edit: just looked at the Skyview Pilot's Guide....check out page 5-9....you need the EMS.

As Jeffa says, an EMS is needed for VP-X functions. Are you not planning on using our engine monitor, or is it just not connected yet?

No worries, figured that'd be the case.

I am planning on using the SkyView EMS - actually I'm using SkyView everything bar the comm radio and that's only because it isn't out yet - I just haven't purchased the module yet.

While I knew the VP-X page fell under the Engine page, I wasn't sure if SV would make the Engine (and consequently VP-X) page available with the widgets Red-X'd out as it does with the Map page when there's no GPS/position information available.

Ta gents, now I might have to approach SWMBO for an increase in my pocket money. :p
