What shop time for Classic to HDX upgrade are people seeing?

What shop time / labor costs are people seeing to upgrade a skyview classic to the equivalent size HDX display? From everything I have read, the physical swap is trivial (with much of the annoyance being directed at the two screws that don't line up and why make the display a different size that requires the gap filler plate?) and ( as long as the configuration is saved and transferred) another hour or two of calibration and configuration refinement. Some experimental owners are saying it is a few hours per display, but I have an SLSA so I am at the mercy of others.

I just had a “dynon authorized center” shop tell me that to swap out my two skyview classics to HDX would take a couple of weeks in the shop and a few days of labor. If I show up with the two displays and the bottom gap-filler plates, I was expecting at most one day of labor, so obviously one of us doesn’t know what they are talking about. But which one of us is it?

Are they going to remove the panel and put new nut plates in? That might take some messing around. I did my own and I drilled the holes and used standard nuts for the new holes, but I was able to reach in the back and didn't have any panel removal issues. I'd bet you could almost use Tinnermans and avoid taking the panel out. Just thinking out loud. I've done both of my planes and it sure doesn't take any couple of days, but it's been a couple of years and my memory isn't real sharp. Can you find a friendly A&P or LSRM-A and you do it and have them sign it off?

No, that is not necessary. My panel is fully accessible from the top and bottom. Existing Dynon components just have jamb nuts. I can attest that with the existing display, removing is a 5 minute task and reinstalling is a 10 minute job.

I don’t understand why Dynon doesn’t include a “nut strip” which is just is a metal strip with either threaded holes or PEM nuts that align with the panel so just through holes are needed in the panel and individual nuts are required.

Garmin does exactly this for their G5 and G3X screens (maybe more, but I've used those). Works great - very simple.
