My d180 is reporting inappropriate winds aloft speeds . the oat is accurate.
In todays post on doug reeves VAF website(www.vansairforce.net) he shows pictures of his dynon and 496 with wind speeds reading "43" . While his winds aloft speeds maybe correct. this is exactly what my d180 screen looks like and I'm certain that the winds at 3000 ft were not 40 plus mph.
Don't know what to do. Any actions you suggest to address the issue?

So the wind depends on a few things being correct. The things to take a closer look look at are magnetic heading, GPS ground track direction, GPS ground speed, and TAS (this is why the OAT is needed). One of them is probably off in some way.

The easiest way to check your wind vector is to fly to altitude, let the airplane stabilize, and fly multiple vectors.  Theoretically the wind vector should report the same (or nearly the same) velocity on each heading.

If it doesn't either your IAS is wrong or your heading needs calibration.

Go here and download the 4-way gps run spreadsheet.

http://go.phpwebhosting.com/~khorton/rv8/phplinks/index.php?&PID=49

Download the file, make some 4-way gps runs and the spreadsheet will tell you your TAS and the winds aloft at the time.  You can compare the calculated numbers against your Dynon numbers to see if they're accurate.  My winds aloft were accurate to within plus or minus two knots, TAS to within 1 knot.

Dear Sir

I have a D100 and a Garmin 296 interconected. HSI is working fine.

I have already ugraded the firmware to 4.2 version.

I don't have the OAT probe so I input temperature manualy

Problem: The arrow and the winds aloft speed are not appearing

Any ideas?

We will only display winds aloft if you have an actual OAT probe. You will not get winds if you manually enter OAT.
