Display delayed initialization after startup

Recently, I made a 3 leg flight from San Diego to Bozeman. I have 2 HDX displays in my 182. Upon the first startup, the primary screen came on, but the secondary did not. About 30 mins into the flight, the 2nd display came on. It had power (the buttons were lit), and it was receiving data. I know this because when I swapped screens on the primary, the secondary screen data (map and EMS) displayed on the primary screen correctly.

Upon start up after my first and second stops (legs 2 and 3), this problem did not happen. Both screens lit up correctly upon start up. The plane then sat on the ramp for two days, and on the third day I flew back to San Diego with only one stop. Both displays lit up immediately and correctly on both startups that day.

Yesterday, six days later, with the plane sitting in the hangar, I went to update the databases, and the second display again did not come on initially. Same symptoms. I did not fly.

Would appreciate your ideas on things that I can easily check. Bad physical wire connection? Auto dim setting? Other ideas? This is a new installation since January, and I have logged about 30 hours of flying since then with it. The problem just started.

I'd check wiring and connector pins first. Bad connections can go in and out with vibrations and variations of temperature.

This sounds right. Did a short 25-min flight today. 2nd display didn’t work. Then, after sitting 2 hours, both displays lit right up at startup for the ride home.
