Magnetometer Calibration Not Saving

A friend of mine (same aircraft, same Dynon HDX installation) has recently been having a problem with his magnetometer. He’s done the ground calibration and the airborne calibration. He’s got 115 on the test and saved it. All works well for the rest of the flight but when he shuts down and restarts he gets the dreaded ‘voice of doom’ and a message telling him a recalibration is required.

So, learned souls, why is the HDX not saving the calibration (yes, he pressed ‘save’)?

This has not always been the case. It was working to start with but, after approximately 40 hours, it’s now playing up.

The calibration is not an issue and it's been well into the green when he's saved it and, as I said, it works very well for the rest of the flight.

I will get him to double check the ADAHRS mounting but there are no other issues and the horizon on the HDX is still spot on, so I don't think that would be an issue. I know the settings are saved in the ADAHRS so maybe there's something dodgy going on there.

Paul, I get it, however from my side I’ve done at least 60+ ADAHRS calibrations (using the high 120 + numbers) without ANY cal ‘failures’ or unit defects. This case ‘may’ be different - checking the security & also stiffness of the mounting would be very worthwhile doing before going down the replacement repair route. 😉.
Please advise us of the solution when you guys get there. You know WE are trying to help fellow aircraft builders & we learn from them too😄.
ps- you may recall the scenario of a poster who blamed Dynon for everything despite all the troubleshooting & replacement/ repair units shipped? -this is NOT the same as your friends situation - ‘His’ issue was the result of a poorly homemade/ designed pitot/static/aoa combination tube.

Well - that was ONE of his issues, anyway...
