Will this be able to fly only GPS based approaches or will it do ground based ILS approaches too?

It looks to me like an add-on remote WAAS GPS box and antenna that will connect via NET or serial and only provide WAAS gps enroute and approach capability. There aren’t any ground based navigation radios in this upgrade.

I noted in the video that in the Nav Source box that it said ”SV” so I assume it’s view sky view network device.

I think it is going to be a replacement/competitor for the IFR TSO'd navigators on the market. Likely the same capabilities.

I put a GNS430W in my panel in 2019 because two airports I fly into regularly about 667 nm away had only RNAV approaches and the nearest VOR or ILS was 90 miles away. I'd successfully avoided buying it for two decades mainly because of the very expensive subscription databases it consumes. To my surprise, my renewal this year is lower than last year, I think. But the vendor elected to change some parameters in the update manager to autolaunch its application on my main work computer. Vendor applications that tamper with my system settings without asking at upgrade time quickly find themselves locked in an operating system jail with no access to increased privilege settings.

Any company that thinks this is ok, gives me a very strong incentive to find an alternative, so, Dynon's announcement is very timely and I think it's safe to say I'm anxiously waiting to be an early adopter.

My concern is that this will make integration with Avidyne IFD's even lower on their priority list. I like the new IFR HDX, but I feel that they are leaving a huge group who already have navigators with unfinished capabilities.

I’d like to see the vnav work for planned altitudes coupled with autopilot, the adsb issue fixed so the IFD can use sky view as a data source, visibility of nav freqs in the top bar, and for flight plans to be synced both ways.

id like to be able to flight plan on the HDX and or ForeFlight and have everything sync at once.

ForeFlight becomes complicated pushing flight plans and where those push/pulls are going.

Thanks for the curiosity, I'd love if I could get some thought on this. I've posted some comments in the Skyview Wish List thread on the Skyview Discussion forum. You can find a similar question searching for "Dynon fuel quantity and flow rate to GNS and IFD."

The main surprise I had installing my Dynon HDX system is that I lost fuel information on my Avidyne IFD540. The IFD540 was able to injest fuel information from my EI FP-5L and the Dynon HDX has all the same fuel information, and a lot more, but it doesn't flow that to the IFD540 - at least not as far as I can tell. It's been difficult to determine between Avidyne and Dynon if the data is not being sent, or if it is being sent, but not processed on the IFD side.

Now that I think about it, I think there were also some other data in the IFD540 calculators that I was expecting to be populated via the HDX that weren't. I don't have those examples handy for you now though, I'll need to look into that next time I'm up flying.
