Third here - I use this function frequently in the certified world.

The transponder takes it's power separately from ships power, not the Skyview battery - so #2 will leave you with a functioning screen but no transponder.

Swap the thermocouples on a couple cylinders, and see if the problem follows the swap - if it does then the problem is with the thermocouple - if it does not then you have a legitimate cylinder problem. That could be a leaking exhaust valve or one spark plug not firing, either will cause a rise...

That's not a bad plan, but likely not necessary - notice that the last "new gadget" Dynon released (which is the Comm radio) carries two D9 ports that act as a passthru - so a spare port is not really required. The "next gadget" will almost certainly be an add-on with passthru ports.
