Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

Just wondering if the above limitation has been resolved. We are currently swapping out a Com radio for the GNC255 and have the serial connection ready to hook up. We hope we will be able to use the Nav functions and display LOC/GS/VOR info and use the HSI display - this is obtained from data...

    Tune Funkwerk ATR833 from Database

I have seen a couple of mentions of frequencies being sent to the radio but no details about showing frequencies on the Skyview (which I guess needs data sending the opposite way) - above suggests this was in the pipeline. Is this now a working feature ?

    Current reading is offset

With our Skyview (no backup battery installed) amps used to read negative a couple of amps when engine not running and a decent positive charge when running which reduced predictably during a flight as the battery was topped up - it was all good. Yesterday it was showing a really high reading...

    Servo travel limits

Thanks for the input. I just find it surprising that the software will allow the servo to try and move past the 'calibrated' extremes of travel and therefore rely on the hardware stops of the controls. I am aware these will prevent over-travel and the supplied limiting bracket as a further last...

    Servo travel limits

I have searched but only found a partial answer to this: When the calibration is performed and the total range of travel is established is the software still capable of driving the servo past these limits ? If so, is there a good reason for this not to be a software limit ? Just noticed a 180...

Oil temp about 50% of expected

I have a newly installed Skyview but the oil temp on my Rotax 912 takes ages to reach 50 deg C (min for power checks). In flight it rarely goes above 55 and when power is reduced it drops to mid 40s and in a descent it settles at about 35. In my Rotax experience these temps are displayed at the...

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

Sorry - I thought the name of this thread implied the Garmin GNC 255 was the device. The whole question was having to choose the VOR data or the GPS data from the serial port on the Skyview as the Garmin has a single port. Just hoping the capability might be there to allow both these data...

    Rotax profile not implemented

Yes - this is the cure - I changed the name back and all works perfectly. Self inflicted fault !

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

I just noticed the post above which suggests Dynon are working on the serial connection providing both GPS and VOR data - is this a possibility ? Just trying to get an idea of what's going to be possible now I have cut a new panel.

    Rotax profile not implemented

So will renaming it 'OIL' sort out the tachometer and it's dynamic colour banding ?

    Rotax profile not implemented

Here is a screenshot I took today - the redline is not editable (as it says in the manual) and the engine type is Rotax 912 - the max revs are specified as 5800 and max continuous at 5500 rpm which is correct but the colour labels seem wrong on the widget.

    Rotax profile not implemented

I set the engine to Rotax 912 but the tacho does not change dynamically - I will double check it's still set on Rotax as I may have neglected to press accept/confirm etc when making changes. I presume the behaviour is on all the time if 912 is the selected engine i.e. not an option that needs to...

    Rotax profile not implemented

I loaded the Rotax 912 profile into my Skyview and selected the 912 in the set-up. It seems to have the wrong redlines for the revs and CHTs - I thought it would have given a green at 2,000 for warm-up then shifted it to allow for the power check at 3,500 or 4,000 rpm when oil temp is high...

Video input - is it possible ?

I heard video input was in the pipeline (Oshkosh 2012 seminar) for the Skyview but I am curious if the hardware will permit it - which connection would make this possible or would it be via USB ? Like so many other taildragger pilots I'd love a camera to show the view forwards when the nose is...

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

I found out the solution as things stand at the moment - seems like the ARINC option would allow GPS position to be transferred from Skyview to Garmin with the frequency info being handled by the serial port. As the SV has a nearest list of frequencies it's not such an issue not having the...

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

You mentioned ARINC wasn't a worthwhile option but would this provide the additional data transfer ? What else would this type of connection give as far as functionality ? I guess this is somewhat more of a Garmin issue than Dynon but now in the UK we can't fit any 25kHz radios to new builds...

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

The 'fancy lookup' isn't much of an advantage on the Garmin as the Skyview will provide a similar feature - but the distance to or from a VOR is useful. Not sure it's worthwhile upgrading just yet until the potential is unleashed between these 2 systems.

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

I am not trying to do anything complex - here's what I need to know: The Garmin 255 needs GPS info to allow it to provide relevant nearest station frequencies (it will generate a list in the same way as the Skyview) and also it will then display DME type info (distance, time to etc). Would this...

Garmin GNC 255 and Skyview - limitations

Hi All I have tried searching but can't find the thread that was discussing the potential options available to this combination of units. I intend adding a 255 to my Skyview and would like to ensure the GPS data is available to the Garmin in order to allow the DME type info to be available as...
