Rotax profile not implemented

I loaded the Rotax 912 profile into my Skyview and selected the 912 in the set-up. It seems to have the wrong redlines for the revs and CHTs - I thought it would have given a green at 2,000 for warm-up then shifted it to allow for the power check at 3,500 or 4,000 rpm when oil temp is high enough.

Is there something else I need to do to to get this feature to work ? It seems like the scales are calibrated for some other, lower revving, engine type.

Thanks

Section 5-2 of the user Guide covers these behaviors. We do in fact make 1800-2500 RPM green when the oil temp is low, per the Rotax user manual. There is no special behavior for the CHT's, everything is based on oil temp. This has worked very well for a lot of aircraft.

What behavior are you seeing (or not seeing)? Is your oil temp sensor configured and working properly?

Rotax 912 Behavior
SkyView can be configured to adjust the oil temperature and tachometer gauges for the Rotax 912 engine dynamically to reflect limitations that Rotax specifies for that engine. When this behavior is turned on (per the SkyView Installation Guide), the tachometer and oil temperature behave in the following ways:

Tachometer for Rotax 912:
When OIL TEMP < 120ºF, the TACHOMETER displays these ranges:
[ch61623] 0-1400 and 4000-6000 RPM in RED
[ch61623] 1400-1800 and 2500-4000 RPM in YELLOW
[ch61623] 1800-2500 RPM in GREEN
When OIL TEMP > 120ºF, the TACHOMETER displays different ranges:
[ch61623] 0-1400 and 5800-6000 RPM in RED
[ch61623] 1400-1800 and 5500-5800 RPM in YELLOW
[ch61623] 1800-5500 RPM in GREEN
The alarm type for the tachometer is the “self-clearing” type.

Oil Temperature Gauge for Rotax 912:
When OIL TEMP < 190ºF, the OIL TEMP gauge displays these ranges:
[ch61623] 100-120 and 230-266ºF in YELLOW
[ch61623] 120-190ºF in GREEN if OIL TEMP has been above 190ºF “more recently” than OIL TEMP was below 120ºF; otherwise 120-190ºF is displayed in BLACK OUTLINED IN WHITE
[ch61623] 190-230ºF in GREEN
[ch61623] 266-280ºF in RED.
When OIL TEMP is > 190ºF, the OIL TEMP gauge will display different ranges:
[ch61623] 100-120 and 230-266ºF in YELLOW
[ch61623] 120-230ºF in GREEN
[ch61623] 266-280ºF in RED
The alarm type for oil temperature is the “self-clearing” type.

I set the engine to Rotax 912 but the tacho does not change dynamically - I will double check it's still set on Rotax as I may have neglected to press accept/confirm etc when making changes. I presume the behaviour is on all the time if 912 is the selected engine i.e. not an option that needs to be activated ?

The CHT scales were well in the red at 90 degrees C - the figures seemed correct and match what I get in other Rotax engined planes but the colour bands were a bit unusable. I can re-configure them as I presume they are just in a default setting.

Thanks for the info.

Yep - if you've selected 912 as your engine, you should be seeing those dynamic behaviors. No other action is needed.

Here is a screenshot I took today - the redline is not editable (as it says in the manual) and the engine type is Rotax 912 - the max revs are specified as 5800 and max continuous at 5500 rpm which is correct but the colour labels seem wrong on the widget.

Thanks for the screenshot, that was very helpful.

So the issue is that you have renamed "OIL" to "OIL T". The only way SkyView knows which input is your oil temp is to look for the sensor named "OIL" that is also a temperature. You have "OIL T", so it is confused and doesn't know what to use.

I fell foul of this! When we added a second oil pressure sender to our RV-12, I changed oil pressure names to 'OIL P1' and 'OIL P2'.

Then I thought I'd set oil temp from 'OIL' to 'OIL T'. Next flight, RPM arcs didn't change when the oil temp got to 50 deg as it should and had previously. :(

Went into the set up menu, removed the 'T' from 'OIL T' and hey presto, normality was resumed. :)
