    Dynon 180 compass calibration

Thanks for your reply. I am in the south of England UK and I have attached the data I used prior to the compass calibration. I used 66 degrees for the inclination and 48,593 nT for the Total Field figures. The EDC- D10A is on the floor in the back of the aircraft, behind the seats and clear of...

    Dynon 180 compass calibration

After a black screen status last year, Dynon repaired my 180 but it failed again within a month. It went back to Dynon and was repaired again under warranty. I'm in the UK but the turnaround was very efficient. All seems well now and after recalibrating the compass on its last return (about 6...

Dynon D180 died inflight, black screen, unable to reboot.

Hi Dave. Dynon repaired it on the £450 max promise and replaced the mainboard and display board. I used it for a couple of weeks and the fault reoccurred. It was shipped back to Dynon in America again and was repaired FOC. It's been a couple of months now and behaving itself, fingers crossed...

Dynon D180 died inflight, black screen, unable to reboot.

My D180 just stopped working mid-flight yesterday. All possible reboot methods would not start it. At the hangar I have checked the power supply to the dsub and it is good, about 12.4 volts and the ground is good. I pulled the D180 to my workshop and connected an external 12 volt + power source...

Flightdek 180 reporting lower voltage than battery

Good advice. I firstly changed the power+ takeoff from a relay to a connection directly from a + bus with an 18 awg wire as opposed to the 22 awg and then upgraded the ground to an 18 awg to a separate ground lug. It works a treat now but I am surprised by the drain the radio transmission takes...

Flightdek 180 reporting lower voltage than battery

Thanks for the rapid reply. I am measuring at the battery but I will recheck at the Dynons power pin tomorrow and report back. I will also check the integrity of the units power / ground connections. Cheers, James.

Flightdek 180 reporting lower voltage than battery

The power input line to the 180 is measured at 12.62 volts but the Dynon is reporting 11.8 volts. Without the engine running, with all the avionics switched on and whilst testing my new radio installation, pressing the PTT causes the 180 to display a low voltage warning and flash erratically...

    D 180 artificial horizon out

Thanks for your reply. I am inclined to live with the fault for the time being as long as it continues to heal itself after 10 minutes or so in the air. You can see it here :- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQrFmMZedao I am reluctant to ground my aeroplane for what may be some...

    D 180 artificial horizon out

The artificial horizon of my D180 is showing about a 5 - 10 degree bank on the ground at startup. It improves after about 15 minutes in the air and becomes acceptable. Does the Dynon require this warm up period? Thanks, James.

D 180 winds aloft after Garmin 795 update

Thanks. I have experienced the data rate problem previously and aware that it should be set to normal. I may have found the answer whilst flying today though, by checking the Dynon headings being displayed compared to the 795 headings. I flew the cardinal headings and there were up to 20 degree...

D 180 winds aloft after Garmin 795 update

Hi. I should say from the off I do not have an OAT fitted to the installation in my Aeroprakt A22 Foxbat (<100 Kts ) but until recently I have had sensible winds aloft reported by the 180 when my Garmin 795 is connected. However, I updated the 795 software and the EFIS is now displaying garbage...

    Garmin 496 not seen

I may have found the solution. From my Garmin data output menu I have advanced NMEA options and I changed the data transfer speed from FAST to NORMAL. I flew a route yesterday and the HSI and wind arrow features are all working fine with no dropouts, fingers crossed, thanks for your help, James.

    Garmin 496 not seen

I'll try that, thanks. Can I use the 496 to produce an HSI without the HS34? Does it just mean I will have to switch between NAV and GPS via the 180? What will I lose without the HS34? Thanks, James.

    Garmin 496 not seen

Hi, yes I tried both those things, recycling the 496 and then disconnecting the power / serial cable from it. I also recycled the Dynon. The purple light on the nav source button stays lit and pressing the button has no effect. To answer your first question, I did used to get the red DSAB not...

    ERROR Code 6 D180 and HS34

I have got my G496 working well linked through the HS34 but it is constantly dropping out. I have tried rebooting the Garmin and the Dynon 180 without success. The purple light remains lit on the HS34 showing the nav source and cycling the nav source button does nothing. I accessed the setup...

Re: Error code 6. DSAB Network could not be configured My Garmin 496 now works well with the 180 with the HS34 but the DSAB connection drops out regularly. In the setup menu I get ERROR Code 6, DSAB Network could not be configured when I try to configure and a message to Contact DYNON. Any help...

    Garmin 496 not seen

Did I say unlikely to be the serial cable? Guess what? The power wires from the serial cable were in place but the plug carrying the data was disconnected ::) Its a very untidy wiring job and the plug was in the middle of a birds nest. Thanks for your input, James.

I tried all the available options in the Garmin menu. I particularly persevered with nmea in/nmea out, aviation in/nmea & aviation out, Garmin data transfer, tis in/nmea & vhf out but had a shot with all the other options. Could be th serial cable? Unlikely but I'll check it. It's charging the...
