The artificial horizon of my D180 is showing about a 5 - 10 degree bank on the ground at startup. It improves after about 15 minutes in the air and becomes acceptable. Does the Dynon require this warm up period? Thanks, James.

No, there should be almost no warm up time. Please contact our support folks (support@dynonavionics.com or 425-402-0433), obtain an RMA, and send it back to us. We will check it and fix whatever is wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I am inclined to live with the fault for the time being as long as it continues to heal itself after 10 minutes or so in the air. You can see it here :-

I am reluctant to ground my aeroplane for what may be some time, particularly as I expect it will have to be returned to The States. I am in the UK. The EFIS seems ok in most other aspects although one of the cardinal headings, south I think, slips its calibration after a short time, nothing too dramatic but it has a big effect on the winds aloft indicator when linked to the Garmin 795. The three remaining cardinals remain within limits. Thanks again, James.

Our goal is to return repaired units within 10 days from here at the factory, plus a couple days for shipping each way.

If you purchased the D180 from our UK dealer, Mendelssohn, they may be able to fix you up with a loaner while yours gets fixed.

Either way, we suggest you get it in for repair as soon as possible.

I've been running a D180 and a D10A for backup in a Glasair for about 8-years.  The artificial horizon on the D180 has begun to lag far behind the D10A (particularly in roll) during normal maneuvers.  Any idea what the problem could be?  One additional issue with this D180 is that when auto-dimming is selected for use with the HS34, it often goes completely dark at the most inopportune times.  The D10A's auto-dim function works fine so that tells me that the problem is not with the HS34.  I can disable auto-dim on the D-180 and manually dim the unit, but it doesn't incrementally dim like it used to. From full bright, it only takes a couple of button presses (dimming) and it goes almost completely dark. Seems to stay on full bright fairly well though. Suggestions?  Chad

On the dimming issue, it sounds like the backlight on the D180 might have a hardware issue. When you dim the D180, does every other button push severely dim the screen?

On the lag - do the IAS indications on the D10A and D180 match, particularly during airspeed changes? If not, how are they different? If so, we might need to look at that unit.

Please get in touch with our support staff at 425-402-0433 to follow-up directly. We'll likely want to see your D180 here for at least the first issue.
