    What if - GPS fails??

Good discussion, however my orginal issue remains unresolved. Under the following conditions (my normal configuration): - GTN-650 providing the flight plan to the SkyView via the Dynon ARINC. The ARINC install per the SkyView install manual. - The SkyView receiving GPS information from the...

    What if - GPS fails??

Pin 3 is connected. But, my assumption is with the normal configuration this has the GTN feed the PDF, but not provide GPS position information to the SkyView moving map. That still comes from the GPS-250 (or GPS-20200. Let me know if my assumption is wrong. Carl

    What if - GPS fails??

Already do that. Not the issue at hand. I want a GPS feed from the GTN-650 to feed the SkyView in the event of the GPS-250 failing. The GTN-650, via the ARINC does feed the SkyVIew PDF, but my understanding is it does not feed the SkyView moving map. Carl

    What if - GPS fails??

Running dual HDX displays, GPS-250 and GTN-650 (via the SkyVIew ARINC). ADS-b out is provided by the GTN-650 Serial #2 feeding the SkyView XPDR. All work fine. The issue: - If the GTN-650 GPS goes south, the SkyView (with GPS-250 feeding Serial #5)) provides the navigation backup. - If the...

Dynon have any plans for more powerful Com transceiver? Garmin kicking their butt.

Go ahead and buy a Garmin radio and find out the receiver has the worst selectivity on the market. It takes 4dB of power to hear a difference in radio transmission. 3 db is a double of power. In other words going to 16 watts can be measured on an instrumented range, but that is about all. I...

    G5 GPS input

Yep - but the SkyView does not list either as option for serial out format. I was wondering if some other works. Carl

    What's needed for IFR training

The more expensive but more capability approach is to install a GPS-175. With that you can be legal if you ever do want to fly IFR.

    Fuses, Yes, Fuses

The point not yet discussed is wire insluation. The insulation on auto wiring is PVC. The insulation on aircraft wire is Tefzel. PVC melting point is around 200 degrees. Tefzel is around 500 degrees. Bundle some PVC together in the engine compartment and you compound the problem. The cost...

    Recommended CB size for ADSB-470/472

I suggest for any avionic power leads you stick to #20 wire. #20 wire will handle a short long enough to trip a 5 amp breaker. Also #20 is not as fragile as smaller gauge wires. Carl

    Panel Planning Help Request

Something to consider. The panel cutouts for the modules are a PITA. On top of that trying to stack them such that they are butted together (are you show in your photo) translates to cutouts with little structure left. I suggest a max of two modules on each side of the center display, with a...

    Panel Planning Help Request

Of all the modules, you will touch the Knob Panel most. Changing baro, dialing in new track and when changing altitude. This needs to be on the left (throttle hand). The intercom is the least used item on the panel. Put it on the right. For me I have a GTN-650 as comm #1. It is on the left...

Garmin GNC215 vs Trig TX 56?

No brainer - the Trig. Better company and better radio. In my other builds I did the Garmin GTN-650 and the Dynon radio (made by Trig). On the current build I looked hard at the Trig TX-56 paired with the Garmin GPS175 instead of the 650. It boiled down to the GTN-650 again as I got a better...

Add Dynon Comm with existing GTN650?

I fly with the GTN-650 as Comm #1 and the Dynon radio (with panel) as Comm #2. On the new build I thought long and hard on this alternative: - GPS-175 -Trig NAV/Comm - Dynon radio The GPS-175 and Trig NAV/Comm combo would provide the same funtionality as the GTN-650. The added bonus is the...

    painted OAT probe

    ADS-B in Dynon vs. Avidyne

The other thought is who cares about feedeing ADS-b into the 540? The SkyView HDX is a far superior platform to integrate ADS-B information. The 540, via the ARINC, is your TSO certified GPS navigator, flight plan displayed on the HDX moving map and PDF HSI. The HDX is your view of the world...

    painted OAT probe

The short answer is yes, it would be worth the trouble. My OAT (not painted) was originally mounted in the tail area. It read ~2 degrees above actual. I moved both OAT probes (one for each AHAHRS) to the near the first left wing inspection bay. Problem solved. I used a single four #22...
