17.6. automatic destination airport frequency loading feature?

I’ve updated my Dynon HDX to the latest software version (17,6), which introduced the feature that automatically loads the destination airport frequencies into the Dynon COM radio based on a configurable distance from the destination.
Unfortunately, I can’t find where to enable this feature or where to set the distance threshold. The update is installed correctly, but at the moment, the frequencies of the destination airport are not being automatically loaded into my COM radio, even when flying towards an airport that is entered as the destination in the flight plan.
Can anyone tell me where this setting is located and how to activate it?
Thanks
Jean-Paul

Ditto the above - I can't find it either. I've gone through revision T of the User's Guide and although it's mentioned in the revision history, I can find no other reference to it.

I have not found the feature to work nor have I found any more referrences to it than mentioned above. Not in any setup screens that I could find.

I’ll give that a try today as well!

The settings for this are in SETUP > SYSTEM SETUP > AIRCRAFT INFORMATION > enter this menu and scroll down to the bottom to find the enable/disable option and to set the distance from your final destination waypoint where it will auto-tune the airport ID.

It would appear the steps for this were not clear or possibly erroneously omitted from the documentation, we will make sure this is stated as clear as possible in documentation updates.

I set mine to 30 miles.

I set my 440 for and airport 50 miles away.

At 25 miles it still never changed.

I used the Dynon Flight Plan (Skyview)! In the settings you specified, I set the distance to 60 nautical miles. To be honest, I forgot to check exactly when the frequencies were uploaded. However, when I was about 15 minutes from my destination airport, which corresponded to roughly 30 nautical miles, the frequencies were definitely loaded.
So the feature worked as intended. Many thanks for your help 👍👍

Many thanks! It worked for me, but:

My system is configured to use kilometers and kilometers per hour as its units. However, for this feature, the distance is entered in nautical miles.
I have set the value to 60. However, I now wonder whether the system is actually converting those 60 nautical miles into kilometers. My impression is that it may not be doing so.
In other words, instead of loading the frequencies about 120 km before reaching the destination airport (60 NM ≈ 111 km), it seems to be loading them only about 60 km beforehand.
Is it possible that the system is not converting this value and is instead treating it as kilometers?

Do you have a Dynon com radio installed in addition to the 440 or are you only using the Avidyne?

Yes. The Dynon is my number 2 and is configured in the skyview as the primary. I also have the 440 configured, but in skyview I set it as the secondary, and have the nav configured as well.

But the main point here is the Dynon radio is configured as the primary.

I believe this to be true that it is treating the units as whatever you have selected despite it saying nautical miles in the menu.

It looks like we need to adjust the setting to not say a default of "NM" and add a help text note at the bottom of the screen that specifies the units match whatever you have set in the units menu for distance.

Thanks for clarifying, do you recall if your flight planner/HSI was navigating off of the IFD at the time or SkyView? I'm guessing the flight plan was active using the IFD at the time.

My thought here is user Larbiere mentioned above that he was using SkyView as the flight plan source and it worked for him, I'm wondering if this is a flight plan transfer limitation from third party navigators that isn't syncing the destination waypoint from something other than the Dynon flight plan to the com radio.

I'll play around with it myself to see if I can replicate the same behavior, it may be a limitation that wasn't apparent in our in-house testing and needs to be corrected.

That’s right. I was using the IFD as the FP source. It’s possible I did something wrong, but I don’t think so.

I typically run 121.5 on my Dynon com. If I use the auto tune feature within some distance of destination, is there an option to reset to 121.5 on startup for the next flight?

Any new testing here? I can’t get it to work with my IFD as the flight plan source.

I wonder jf this is related. I updated my Skyview HDX this week too. I have a Trig radio linked and it used to list in R upper screen the primary and standby radio frequencies and the station name dialled on my Trig. Since my latest update , the station name is no longer shown , only the frequency is shown. Is this happening to others who have a set up similar to mine?

According to the updated user manual I just read, this is normal expected behavior for non-Dynon com radios.
