40% wider field of view

I asked this buried in another thread, but I figured i will ask again.

Is it possible to get a wider field of view in synvis in the 40% mode? I fly 100% of the time in 40/40/20 mode and think the wider view in the PFD would be helpful. Maybe for others?

It appears that the perspective between 100% mode and 40% mode are the same, except the 40% mode simply has 60% of the field of view cropped out, which is a bummer. I am noticing this just from eye-balling the magnetic headings on the horizon line.

Anything is possible. "It's only software". I'll definitely put it on the list for consideration.

Great, thanks for the reply. Hopefully, one of your testers flying mostly 40/40/20 layout can do some side by side testing to find a happy medium. It just feels like there can be some good improvement here but obviously your testers would have to confirm it. Cheers!

As long as it is only software...Can I put in a request to list the EMS info at the bottom of the screen..IE as many other EFIS companys do. I love my skyview, but have always wondered the different path here..and would like the ems at the bottom with a 50/50 split PFD/Map above.

We've discussed the EMS on the bottom before. Check out this thread:

http://dynonavionics.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1381941973/19#19

Since SkyView's screen is wider than taller, using the splits horizontally seems to make sense to us. But we're open to ideas. Last time we asked why people wanted them at the bottom and didn't get any strong reasons, and knowing why you would prefer that is key to getting it the way people want.

One downside to the way some other EMS units do it is that the EMS bar is transparent, and while that seems great at times, the lack of a hard separation means that some things you really want to see end up behind the EMS and cause issues. We really believe that you should never have to "look through" your EMS to see your chart or map.

EMS on the bottom means a bunch of trade-offs. Do what G3X does and only show a subset of EMS info? Looks like you lose the HSI when showing EMS info, too. Do what AF-4500 does and overlay the HSI on synvis to give you enough room to show all the EMS info, which i dont like either.

Personally, i am happy with the current SV layouts, realizing that any changes will require tradeoffs of one form or another.

As noted by the Admin, this field has been plowed before.  At the time, I asked for just a RPM or MP symbol on the Map.  The Admin questioned whether that would comply with the FAR concerning the three required engine indicators (meaning also Oil Press and Temp.)

After reviewing the FAR and contemplating since the last thread - I think it would - since they can legitimately be considered to be present, although being monitored by the system in the background.

But - if it is needed for the FAR - then put the three required params on the Map.  I don't need the other stuff continuously, just periodically.

That would allow a 50/50 screen split between PFD and Map, which a lot of people seem to want, without eating up a lot of vertical real estate by adding an EMS panel across the top or bottom.

My two cents worth (again.)  Make it three cents.

Some types of gauges eat up a lot of screen real estate...maybe some gauges could be combined in a smart way for use on the small (20%, whether vertical or horizontal) EMS layout?

Might mean new widget designs...

Just brainstorming here, thinking out loud...

Why not have a kind of narrow status line on the bottom of the display, similar to the status bar on the top. The status bar on the bottom would only accept status indicators (the green/amber/red lamps) and textual indicators (numeric readouts).

Doing it this way lets you monitor the status of relevant parameters in an overall unobstrusive way which doesn't take away much from your screen real estate.
