I have been flying my RV9 with a single SkyView monitor. Now I want to add a second (on the passenger side) and include EMS.
I am confused about a couple (simple) things.
1. Are the 2 PFD's connected with a USB cable AND a network cable?
2. When I buy the second display, do I need the entire harness?
3. When I update data/firmware - do I need to do BOTH units at the same time or will one "talk" to the other.
4. Does the $500 license apply to the second unit too?

Thanks for your help.

1. Network cable, yes. Ethernet cable, reccomended.
2. Yes, it has power, grounds, all the serial need connecting to the 1st display, etc.
3. Software needs to be loaded to each screen individually. Database loads on either display and transfers to the other by ethernet cable.
4. One license will enable the second display.

Kim:

All of these points are covered in the SkyView System Installation Guide.

1. Connected by a Network Cable and an Ethernet cable (not USB cable).
2. Normally, the SV-HARNESS-D37 is bundled with the display.
3. On the SV-HARNESS-D37, you will need to connect the following in parallel from the existing display to the second display:
Serial Port 1 (if used)
Serial Port 2 (if used)
Serial Port 3 (if used)
Serial Port 4 (if used)
Serial Port 5 (almost always used for the SV-GPS-250/2020 GPS receiver).
Audio
3a. If you update an aviation / obstacle database, it will automatically synchronize to the other display.
3b. Firmware is NOT automatically updated to the second display - each display updated individually.
4. Yes - the licensed one will say LICENSED, THIS DISPLAY. The other display will say LICENSED DISPLAY ONLINE.

To confirm, if I want a secondary display for ONLY EMS, I need to hook up every serial device parallel to both displays?

I don't think so - I'd just connect the network cable & Dynon GPS to give fuel at waypoint etc functions as a minimum. DS may add more info.

If two screens are on the same DSAB network, they must also share serial port connections. It doesn't matter what is being shown, we assume we can send out serial data from either screen and it will make it to the device, so without those connections, your serial devices will work intermittently.

If you want, you could wire the screen that does EMS to ONLY the EMS module. Doing this means that you can't show EMS on the other screen or PFD on the EMS screen in a failure case. It also means the EMS fuel computer won't get any navigation data.
