I had an IPC over the weekend and the HDX with the Garmin 175 performed great (better than the pilot!). I'm curious about a couple of things

  • when viewing the geo-referenced approach plate I could see own position but no other traffic. Is there an option to enable traffic for the approach plate view?
  • The glidepath marker is visible next to the HSI but looks a bit small for such a critical item. Is it possible to show a larger GP indication on the altitude tape as well?

As Marc said, currently no. I have dual screens and run the approach plate on one screen and traffic on the other, just keep glancing back and forth as part of my scan.

One would think that normally, in actual IMC, another "VFR, not talking to him" aircraft would not be part of the traffic pattern. But sadly, in reality...

As @airguy says, with dual screens, it's fairly simple to maintain attitude, location, weather and traffic situational awareness. On the left screen (pilot side) I have PFD and approach plate, along with bottom engine band. On the right screen, I have map and engine, 1/2 and 1/2. So I get weather on the right side map, and traffic on the PFD and map. I have reversion mode set, so that if either screen keels over dead, I've still got PFD, plate, and engine available, with traffic on the PFD.

It would certainly be nice to have traffic on the approach plate, but it's hardly a major deal.

WRT the glidepath marker, it would be NICE if it was larger, but again, not a big deal - it's fairly obvious what's going on.

thanks for the feedback, i was just checking in case I missed something. I've only done IFR with the six pack before so it will take some practice to adjust to the smaller GP marker.

I don't have a second HDX but there is an ipad with foreflight and I'm thinking about adding Aera/GDL-50 for a permanent traffic display. There are many training flights and a large TRACON in my area, can never have too much traffic awareness.
