ADS-B in without ground station coverage

Airplane build is still a few months from completion with a Skyview system including the ADSB 470 for in and the 1090ES for out. When reading all I find on the ADSB stuff, including the recent Kitplanes article, it appears I will see 978 out traffic but nothing else if not in ground station coverage. Sounds like most are not equipping with 978 out. I don't anticipate getting ground station coverage at my home airport in the mountains of North Idaho. Seems that most everyone, including me as recommended by
Dynon, is using 1090ES for out. I think this means that most USB out traffic will not depicted on Skyview when not within ground station coverage. Am I missing something? If not, is there a solution to see the 1090 stuff?

There have been a few discussions on this topic. The bottom line is that unless you have ground station coverage, you're missing a significant amount of traffic. That is because right now moment, many aircraft are not equipped at all, and even come 2020, the FAA estimates that only 70% of aircraft will eventually equip with ADS-B out. It's true that you won't see 978 targets directly with our receiver, but this is dwarfed by the main issue. Here are a couple of links to recent discussions on this topic:

Thanks for the links. Lots of info in the second one but it confirms my understanding. So, show me also advocating for dual band receive capability. I understand that the percentage of ADS-B out equipped aircraft is low right now but is going up as 2020 nears. I hear of people upgrading to comply quite often. And it sounds like most of the out equipage is via 1090ES in order to avoid the limitations that exist with 978.
