ADSB OUT with GPS-250

While flying with a friend today who has a Garmin 796 with a GDL-39 he took screen shots of me with the N number clearly ID'd on the screen. I've got a Skyview with ADSB in but not 2020 (not available yet). How can I be transmitting the number to an ADSB in antenna?

Your mode S transponder is the ADS-B out source. The ADS-B in antenna is receive only.

Assuming you are using the existing Dynon GPS receiver and have it selected as your ADS-B GPS position out source, it will do exactly that. The fact that it lacks a couple of the specific data fields to be 2020 compliant makes little difference.
